General MS Windows, Win95/98/NT/ME/2K/XP Requirements & Settings

Most features (if not all) will work with versions of Internet Explorer 4.0 or later. Some facilities are not available in Netscape 4 but are available in later versions of Netscape. Earlier versions of Netscape and IE than these and other brands of browser have not been tested and are not supported.

Note that some of the converter tables are quite large and so may take some time to load. This applies in particular to the Mass, Length and Volume converters. Please allow time for the tables to load. The alternative would be to remove some of the units, thus reducing the coverage. If this is still a problem, please let us know. Note that some tables have been split into several smaller tables to provide modern, historical and world measures.

In general, the minimum requirements are:

  • A Javascript & Frames capable browser
  • Javascript must be enabled
  • Displays should be set to use small fonts
  • A reasonable speed modem or network connection
In order to take advantage of some of the more advanced features you will need to configure your system to accept 'cookies'. Cookies are required to register with FootRule.com and therefore enable the additional facilities.

Settings by Browser

  • Toolbars minimized
  • Variable Width Font size set to 9
  • Fixed Width Font size set to 8
  • Use document specified fonts should be enabled

Internet Explorer 4.0 and Greater

For optimum display clarity, we recommend the following settings.
  • JavaScript and frames are enabled.
  • Toolbars minimized
  • Ignore font styles specified on Web pages is NOT enabled
  • Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages is NOT enabled
  • Tools | Internet Options | General | Settings - "Check for newer versions of stored pages",
    - Select either "Automatically" (preferred) or "Every time you start Internet Explorer". Do NOT select "Every visit to the page" as this will cause your browser to re-read every file for each page every time you access a page, even files that are shared between pages and are held in the browser's cache. This significantly increases the time required to load each page.
